About

The studio is operated by professional saxophone/flute instructor Igor Babich (over 20 years of teaching and performing experience).Igor was born in Vitebsk (Belarus). He started on his first instrument, the piano, when he was five. Had a chance to go to Children's Music School for several years. He picked up flute at the age of fifteen. At the same time Igor attended Vitebsk Music Collage. At the age of nineteen, he moved to Minsk, where continued his aducation at the Belarusian State Academy of Music. Igor switched to saxophone when he served in army. He has diplomas of Vitebsk Music Collage and a Bachelor of Music degree from Belarusian State Academy of Music in Minsk, where he studied the flute and saxophone. Before going freelance, he spent over 20 years playing with a variety of bands and singers. Igor moved to Canada in 2004 and since then shared a stage with Roberto Occhipinti, Alexis Baro, Mark Kelso, Rosendo Chendy León Arocha, Kevin Laliberte, Jack Zorawski, Jay Boehmer, Stan Fomin, Amanda Martinez, Alberto Kingbombo, and Cassava Latin band. He has performed at the Red Sea International Jazz Festival, Distillery Jazz Festival and Oakville Jazz Festival. In 2004, he opened his own Saxophone & Flute Studio which is successfully run till this day. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Igor teaches Saxophone (Inc. Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone), Flute & Recorder.All ages and levels welcome.Lessons format: One-on-One and Group Lessons.Styles: Blues, Jazz, Funk, R&B, Latin, Pop, Classical (RCM).Special Jazz Program: (focuses on sight reading, ear training, jazz history, jazz theory, improvisation, playing in bands and chamber jazz ensembles).Performance (focuses on intensive private study, with junior and senior level solo recitals with the intent of preparing students to enter the performance level).School and Concert Band Material preparation, College and University Audition preparation or Just for FUN!

1. Do I need to bring my own instrument?The students are required to bring their own instruments to class. If you do not own an instrument, your teacher could advise you on where to rent or buy one, as well as on the type of instrument you need.2. What methods do you use to teach?We use a variety of proven teaching methods from many publishers. Our material and audio library had been collected for years and represent a variety of musical styles and performers.3. How old does one have to be to start learning an instrument?Preferably nine-ten years old and up. However, there is no set age for beginners.4. How long does it take to learn an instrument?It depends on the level of ability, on the pace each student learns and how much one practices. On average, it takes about four - six months to learn the basics.5. What can one learn in your lessons?First of all are fundamentals: scales, scale patterns, tone production, vibrato, intonation, articulation and extended techniques. Each week students prepare etudes, solo repertoire and duets. Students have a chance to learn from observation as well, since I always play with them on every lesson. 6. What about students who simply want to learn for fun?Most of our students take lessons because they are having fun.7. Am I too old to start learning an instrument?You are never too old. In fact, many of our adult students have never taken music lessons before. All you need is a wish to learn and just have a try.9. Do you offer lessons at the students homes?No. I believe that the professionally equipped teaching environment of the Studio is the best when learning an instrument.10. What is the method of the payment?Lessons must be paid for advance by the month, term or year. Post-dated cheques are an acceptable method of the payment. If, for any reason, you wish to discontinue your lessons, we require one months notice. Any remaining balance and/or post-dated cheques will be returned to you.11. Do I lose any lesson if I am not able to attend?We allow the lesson cancellation with a 24 hour notice. This will be re-scheduled at a mutually agreed on time. If any lesson is cancelled with less than 24 hour notice, the student will be charged and no make-up class will be allowed. Make-up classes will only be given if a class has been cancelled by the teacher.
